Jordan Valley Men’s Hike
Gentlemen, we’re headed back to Northern Michigan for one of the most beautiful Fall hikes around: the Jordan River Valley Trail just north of Traverse City. Day 1, we set up camp, then hike 8-10 miles. Day two, we hike the second half of the trail, also 8-10 miles, pack up, then head home. For older hikers or those in slightly less than peak condition, there are options like only hiking one half then spending the other day at camp, or being a “camp cook” and just hanging out at camp the whole time. We sleep in tents, but do a modified “car camp” where we can bring more equipment than if we were just backpacking.
Last year we did a Friday/Saturday hike (leaving 6:00 AM Friday and returning evening of the second day). This year, we are considering a Saturday/Sunday trip if that would help more people attend. Please complete this very short survey to let us know if you can attend and which dates would work for you. The survey is here: https://forms.office.com/r/JW2SsiJJXp. The survey includes an option to say you can’t attend. We will announce the dates at the Kick-off September 7.
Kick-off
Speaking of the Kick-off, it’s September 7! Join us for our regular morning service at 9:30 AM, then for a short presentation in the Fellowship Hall following the service where you’ll hear from Team Leaders and others about opportunities both for studies, book clubs, events and service. Oh, wait, there’s more! Then do a quick walk through of First Kids if you’d like, and end up outside with food, games and inflatables! It will be a great time to hang out and get ready for another year of Kingdom building and personal growth here at First Reformed. Please sign-up on Church Center, with the bulletin insert, or by simply calling/emailing the office so we have a count for food. We will have seating for our seniorist citizens; we encourage everyone else to bring lawn chairs. Table service provided.
Church Maintenance Saturday – September 27
On Saturday morning, September 27, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, help us take care of some larger maintenance items at church, including weeding, barn clean up, parsonage maintenance, tool storage and organization, etc. With many hands, we can make light work of the some of the property projects that are hard to keep up on during the year. We’ll have donuts and coffee (or OJ for the young bucks). More info will be shared in weeks leading up, with assignments for some specific jobs in the case special skills/tools are needed. No sign up needed, but contact Kyle if you have any questions or suggestions.
Cheering Section
Sports are back on! One of the ways our older congregants can encourage and show love to the younger generation is by attending their sports competitions and extra curricular events. Say hi to them afterwards or send them a text. Pick one a week, grab some friends and support the community along with our kids. Parents/students, please send us your schedules!
