Happy New Year, First Reformed Family! We are excited for where God will lead us this year. Please commit to praying for all the leaders, volunteers, attenders and visitors of our church.
On the Fence About The Bible Recap?
Today is the official start of our church-wide goal of reading the whole Bible in a year. To do that, we’re using The Bible Recap to guide us and provide some additional help in understanding what we read. If you missed the Sunday we announced this or have just been on the fence, let me encourage you to take the challenge and commit!
Here are your options:

- Grab a printed copy of the reading plan. Check off the boxes as you go.
- Start the reading plan on the Bible App (YouVersion). This app will tell you what to read, give the option to read or listen to the chapters, and links to the devotion video. It also lets you join the group Rob Fletcher started so you can comment on the reading and encourage others in the group.
- You can buy The Bible Recap Bible or Journal and use that to read the plan.
Whatever you pick, it’s a move in the right direction. Especially if you have never read the whole Bible, this is an important step in your life as a Christian.
Have questions or need help with the app? Contact Rob Fletcher (contact info in Church Center directory) or email office@frcportage.org to be connected.
The Next Hill Series
![](https://frcportage.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/The-Next-Hill-Series-Thumbnail-2-1024x576.png)
As we begin 2025, we are taking two Sundays to remind ourselves of our God-given purpose and mission at First, and look at some of the specific ways we can pursue that mission together. This includes both individual and congregational plans to become a healthy church family where God is glorified and people grow in love, faith, and service.
Consistory Retreat January 3-4
This Friday and Saturday (1/3-4), Consistory (Elders and Deacons) will be going to Camp Selah in Reading, MI, for a time of prayer, worship, training and planning for the year. Please pray for this time, that the group will have fun, be inspired, and be equipped to start the year strong and fulfill their roles as servants and leaders of our church.
Prayer
- Arleen Lapekas who is suffering from an unknown illness. Pray for clarity of the issue and a return to strength.
- Pray for Bill Veldman both as he recovers from his hip surgery and as he anticipates back surgery.
- Rachel Smith’s best friend was just diagnosed with thyroid cancer and POTS (in the same week). Please pray for the doctors and specialists to form the best plan possible for her healing.

- Lift up Katie VandeVen as she deals with her cancer and for husband Neal as he cares for her.
